If when you search using the selector in the top right, and find the token not there, you will have to find the contract address and add it manually, for an ERC20 token right?

You can add manually via the smart contract token you want. If the token you mean is ERC20 and TRC20, when you send the token to the ETH address, it will automatically appear and usually without a logo, even though it hasn’t been added.
If you are a developer, you can add it via the Trust Wallet repository on github and commit the token you want to add
