What is the version that you have right now.
Referral rewards is available for 1.7.179 onwards.
You can wait once the update is released globally or join our Beta program.

If you have a backup of your recovery phrase, then you can restore it no matter what.

You can install the beta, but this is like an experimental build.
If you understand the risk, you can definitely try it out.
Or you can wait for the next production release.
