Staking OSMO Token

OSMO, the governance token of Osmosis was not sold or pre-mined, but instead it was distributed only to network participants such as liquidity providers, developers, stakers, and more. The main use-case of the OSMO token is as follows:

  • Reward liquidity providers
  • Governance token used for voting in protocol upgrades.
  • Network fee in Osmosis.

OSMO holders can stake their OSMO to validators, who add these tokens to their slashable bond. Staked OSMO is used to help secure the network. In exchange for their contributions, owners of staked OSMO receive staking rewards and transaction fees.

How to Stake OSMO

In order to participate in staking, you need to have OSMO on your wallet. You can stake a minimum of 0.000001 OSMO. Make sure you have some extra tokens that will be required for Network fees.

Reminder:
Once the OSMO tokens are staked, it will be locked to the validator you have chosen. Staked OSMO takes 14 days to unstake. You will not be able to move your tokens while they are staked.

Access the Staking Menu

Tap on Stake button to open up the Staking Menu. Tap on the Stake menu to continue.

Choose a Validator

Tap on the arrow to see the list of Active validators. Choose one to proceed.

Input the Amount of OSMO

Put in the amount of OSMO you want to stake. Always leave some tokens for staking/unstaking fees. Tap on Next to proceed. Review the transaction and then tap on Confirm.

Reminder:
Once the OSMO tokens are staked, it will be locked to the validator you have chosen. Staked OSMO takes 14 days to unstake. You will not be able to move your tokens while they are staked.

Wait for Confirmation

After submitting the transaction, wait for the Osmosis blockchain to process and confirm it. A Stake transaction will show up on the transaction list. Go back to the Staking status screen to see the current overview of the staked tokens.

Staking Rewards

Validators and delegators that help secure the network through staking will receive 25% of newly released OSMO. Rewards are distributed to delegators (in proportion to their amount of staked OSMO), minus the commission fee charged by their validator of choice. Osmosis allows validators to choose their own commission rate but requires a minimum rate of 5%.
