What is Polkadot?
Polkadot is a new kind of blockchain that’s designed to unite a network of specialized chains so they can operate together seamlessly.
There are specialized blockchains for a reason. One chain cannot fit all requirements. Therefore, by facilitating the interoperability of specialized chains, Polkadot aims to have a network of optimized chains which are all connected executing transactions in parallel. This structure would enhance blockchain scalability. Polkadot also plans to expand this interoperability to existing popular decentralized networks such as Ethereum.
Polkadot is a community governed project, controlled by DOT token holders. DOT token holders can propose changes or vote on proposed changes.
